Small Front-Door Deck — Before and After
This small front-door deck was part of the work completed at my second house. The before-and-after photos show the transition from the exposed wood framing to a clean, finished composite deck surface.
Before — Entry Deck Framing
The small entry deck began with a carefully fitted wood frame positioned between the exterior walls and the concrete walkway. The framing created the support and layout needed for the finished deck boards.
After — Finished Entry Deck
Gray composite decking completed the small front-door platform, creating a clean transition between the concrete walkway and the entrance.
Deck Construction Process
These photos show the deck construction process from preparing the foundation and concrete support pads to assembling the raised wood frame.
Step 1 — Layout and Foundation Preparation
The first stage involved laying out the deck footprint and identifying the support locations. The ground was prepared for the concrete pads that would provide stable bearing points beneath the deck structure.
Step 2 — Concrete Support Pads
Concrete pads were positioned at the planned support points to create a solid base for the deck posts. The connection area along the house was also prepared before the main framing was installed.
Step 3 — Posts, Beams and Framing
After the concrete support locations were established, the posts and main perimeter framing were installed. Temporary diagonal bracing helped hold the raised structure in alignment while construction continued.
Second-Floor Deck Construction
